    NTD

Hopefully the guy who is meeting me later today will be having a NTD of his own. I have a 2011 Nashville Telecaster that I never could bond with. I am mostly a Les paul guy and if I play a Fender it's a Stratocaster.

If you could only have 3 guitars - what & why

I currently have 17 guitars including acoustics and one bass. I couldn't thin that down to three if I really had to. I would like to thin the herd a bit but it's hard to find buyers who are willing to pay a fair price. Everyone on Craigslist wants to lowball you and have you give them your gear...

    Vintage or Modern?

I fall somewhere in the middle. I do not bond with modern high gain amplifiers nor do I like vintage non-master amplifiers. I have always felt that the Marshall JMP master volume amplifiers from the late 70s and their derivatives like the JCM800 (which really isn't a derivative - it's the same...

    NOTD (New Old Tubes Day)

I bought a Peavey Triumph 120 combo on CL a few years ago for $125. 100 watts. All tube. Three channels with reverb. Peavey Scorpion speaker. The thing weighs more than a Fender Twin Reverb, I swear. The preamp tubes were all recent Ruby Tubes - nothing to see there. The power tubes were a quad...

My lawsuit favorite: my mid seventies Ibanez Les Paul copy.

    Blackheart Amps

Those are amazingly well built and good sounding little cabinets. I had several of them at one time. I kept one and sold the rest. Excellent fit and finish. The backs fit really snug. I like the oversized 1x12. Seems to add low end and focus to the tone. I pulled the Blackheart speaker and...

"Inexpensive" DIY pedal kits, & the lessons we learn

I have built three kits from Mammoth Electronics. The Mini Klon, The Zenith Drive and the Weeping Willow wah pedal. Here is my experience with them. I ordered the Mini Klon and paid via PP. It was listed in stock. I received a email saying it would ship in about two weeks since all the parts...

My name is eS.G. and I have a problem

I do seem to recall that it was on the heavy side for a Les Paul style. No chambering or weight relief there. I really love the blue AL 3200 neck through with the carved heel and belly cut. Love the neck through idea but do not like the multi strips of wood showing through the finish on the back...

My name is eS.G. and I have a problem

I bought a used Agile AL-3100 on CL several years ago. It was an outstanding instrument. Excellent fit and finish. Very acceptable stock pickups and bridge/tailpiece. Grover tuners. I thought it was a good deal for the $200 I paid including a hardshell case. The only issue - and it was a huge...

    NGD! $60 Jr.

These little Juniors do not get the respect they deserve. After my guitars were stolen several years back I bought a wine red Epi Junior just to have something to bang around on until I got another "real" guitar. Man, I was amazed at how well this little guitar plays. Sure, the keys are junk. I...

Your favorite pickup for a 1 pup guitar

Had a PG in the bridge of a Les Paul Custom about thirty years ago. I recall that I liked it but it was a long time ago. If I was equipping a single pickup guitar as my main guitar it would likely be a Duncan JB with heavy consideration for the Duncan 59.

Epi Black Beauty ala Jimmy Page

I played a three pickup white Gibson Les Paul Custom for a few years. It looked really cool but I found that I never really used the center pickup (I eventually disconnected it and wired the guitar in the normal fashion) and it frequently seemed to get in the way when I was playing. But they do...

    NOTD (New Old Tubes Day)

I have had mixed results hunting for NOS tubes. One of my favorite NOS tubes is the pre war Ei Telefunken 12AX7 copy made on the old Telefunken tooling. I have one and it sounds great in every amp I have installed it in. It currently resides in V1 of my Soldano Hot Rod 50. I saw one NOS Ei tube...

MUSIC Group (Behringer) Acquires TC Group

I haven't looked at any new Behringer products lately. Did they ever get around to coming up with their own designs or are they still just copying other people's products?

Too old to play guitar / gig with your band ?

I'll be 55 in September. I played in bands off and on from the time I was 18 until about 36. I got tired of the hassles of gigging... tired of putting up with bar owners who were jerks and drunks who were even bigger jerks and other band members who could be colossal jerks. I draw an analogy...

Does anyone run a dual amp rig?

I like my Marshall JCM800 2204 clone that I built and I love my Soldano Hot Rod 50. I have them running off of the dual outputs of a BOSS DD-5 pedal so that I can run either/or or run them both together if I wish. Does anyone run a dual rig? What an incredible tone. My Soldano runs into a...

Massive Price increasings at Epi .....

No need to jump ship on Epiphone, in my opinion. Just don't buy a new one. The new production isn't as nice or consistent overall as some of the stuff available on the used market from earlier manufacturing facilities (in my opinion) and often a previous owner has tweaked and improved on the...

    No Love for the 59's

I have had very good luck with all of the GFS pickups I have purchased. The VEH pickup is especially nice. I have one in a single pickup Strat that just sings. I like the Fat Pat, too. Great pickups - not just for the money. People are turned off by the cheap price (that logic goes both ways)...

    Post Your Favourite Stompbox!

BOSS GE-7 Equalizer. I use it for a clean boost. Been using one for over 30 years. This one has the Monte Allums mod. Much quieter.
