I also love P90s and want a guitar with those. Gonna be the Worn SG or...
Get it! I nearly got one but I'd like to be able to see and approve of the grain pattern before buying. For some reason lots of them have two planks of wildly different grain pattern. I may get a green one next Spring.

There are differences whether one likes it or not. They might be subtle, and to many, the difference in price cannot be defended. That's fair enough, but I don't get the "fanboy" Epiphone-guys' need to slay Gibsons. Sure, they are expensive. Sure there are bad ones leaving the Gibson factory, but they do own Epiphone... So, if you own an Epi, you technically own a Gibson...? 🤔
I completely agree - the "my Epi is better than any Gibson" type of rhetoric often seems misplaced. On the "technically owning a Gibson" thing though - I think this is where Epi/Gibson as a brand could do better. As I always point back to ESP - you look at the number of LTD players/endorsees and bands that actually go on stage with LTD. Also, while the headstock says "LTD", for whatever reason the owners (incl. professional artists and ESP themselves) tend to blur the lines between LTD and ESP (i.e. usually you see ppl talk about "ESP LTD"). Another company that has started to do this better is PRS - the difference is that from the outset, the SE series (and I'm talking about 20 years ago) were sold as cheap versions with no artist support - they've now come around and started putting SEs on stage. Epi's starting to as well after god knows how long... but I understand why they'd be hesitant to shake up the legacy of the big G too much.

I'm with you on that, but don't go telling that to the "fanboy" Gibson-guys.
I won't... Promise! 😁

Epiphone has made signature guitars for years, but the problem has been that the artists never actually used them on stage. Except for the last couple of years? Maybe that's about to change?

One of the guitarist in my wife favorite band. My Chemical Romance played his signature Epi on stage for awhile although I think now he’s using Gibsons. Not my kind of music so I really don’t keep track of them.

Yes sometimes he use Gibson. But he also owned a newer Epiphone Coronet! IIRC he said that he likes Epiphone.

About the question, I owns a Sire acoustic guitar, Epiphone Thunderbird, Epiphone Casino, and Gibson Les Paul. Owned Epiphone Dot and Les Paul Tribute back then. So yeah, I think Epiphone is my brand of choice! Planning to buy one more guitar (this will be the last one I promise 🤪), torn between Epiphone Coronet, PRS Silver Sky SE, or Fender Telecaster. Any input are welcome 🤪. But if I can find an old Epiphone G400 Custom Les Paul (the one that looks like Sister Rosetta's SG) I'll definitely buy one of those

Don’t know how you feel about buying online but last time I checked there were quite a few of those customs on Reverb.

I still love Fender guitars. They are all I played for a long time then I just got to wanting that humbucker sound for some reason.
Well, in which case, have you seen this?

Fender-y stuff with humbuckers is a thing.

Helloooooo Nurse!.jpg
Plus, they're fun to mod.

Yes. Yes it is. Nothing wrong with Gibsons, they are what they are, but with all of the other options available these days at more affordable prices I just don't personally need one.
Agreed. My talent and ego don't require the big "G" (or "F" for that matter) for me to enjoy my instruments. As a bonus, both my bank account and SWMBO are much happier that I stick with imports.

I hadn’t seen those but I had a Squier Tele that had humbuckers in it once. I don’t even remember what happened to that guitar. I probably traded it in on something. I’m also liking the shorter scale of my Les Pauls. Actually I’m enjoying everything about my Les Pauls at the moment. They are really great guitars.

Well, that Squier Contemporary Jaguar is a 24" scale so there you go. I also find it to be more comfortable than any LP I've handled.

IMHO EVERYONE needs at least one Telecaster. It's the universal guitar that can do anything from jazz to country.

IMHO and IMHO only dual humbuckers on a Tele is really nothing more than a Les Paul in a slab body. The guts of a Tele sound is in it's bridge pickup mounted in the bridge itself. THAT's a Tele. Twin buckers isn't Tele or not really a Tele. JMHO

I just haven't found one with price I want to pay for, but I keep looking. Hope newer Epi would release one of these.

That's why I consider it 😉

I have grown towards Epiphone recently, mainly drawn in by the non-Gibson models (Coronet, Crestwood etc) and then the hollow bodies got hold of me and have pulled me away from Gretsch to a large extent.

I love a Gretsch but you are talking serious dollar to play with the big boys.

I'm heavily Epi biased these days. I took a road trip through Fender for a while, but I don't really like their single coils and their necks. So I've headed back home. It's P90's and Humbuckers and large radius necks for me.

I know there are Fenders that meet some of those requirements. But it's the exception, not the rule. Epi and Gibson give me plenty to choose from... and Gibson has mostly priced themselves out of my market. Sometimes Epi's need a little fine tuning, but they are great instruments.

Yep, pretty much my story, except my Fender trip was short, three stops.

I'm a VW guy and I enjoy telling people at my office who own Audi "Nice Jetta" or "Nice Passat". A guy I loosely know got a lambo recently, stupid move. I told him that's a nice Volkswagen too.
