Lennon's casino question.

It's well know that John Lennon sanded off the sunburst finish from his casino, but did he leave it bare wood or lacquer it?

Pretty sure it was clear coated afterwards. I recall reading that somewhere.

As I recall, he stripped the guitar for greater resonance (not aesthetics), so if he did apply a clear coat, it seems likely that it would have been very slight.

If you look at photos of it in the glass case, it gives reflection so it has a coating. However, I can't find anything on when that coating was applied.

Also, John had a black knob on the neck volume, the one in the glass case has all gold knobs. Not sure what the story behind that is either.

Me neither now that you mention it. This one is May 1971. Black volume knob.

I have friends who have had access to John's Casino and it has a thin clear coat to protect the wood.

I guess he was a matter of fact guy more Intent on getting his ideas down than worrying about ascetics.
