So ... pickup sounds great ... like all P90 should. Clean is chimy, OD is growly. Skies didn't open with singing angels, but for $21.99, no complaints.

Then ... this comes up locally, for less than double the above Chinese pickup. AND, period correct for my 2006 Jr !

Killer, as i was reading through i was thinking , don't waste any time with that P100, glad to see you didn't, worst pile of crap pickup ever, Gibson's R&D " it's muddy and lacks any personality", bean counters " great, lets use it to replace the P90 that everyone loves":hmm:
I have the bolt neck Epi Jr and couldn't be happier, after i changed the ceramic mags to A2 and shimmed the pickup up .100, i too need a dogear spacer.

I made one, but it was too thick. So I finally put a piece of foam in the cavity and it holds the pickup at whatever height I want. I don't mind the narrow empty gap, I don't really see it.

But you're making me think ... tic toc tic toc ... I just assumed the Lollar needed to be closer to strings like the Chinese did, so I put that foam in there. But does It really need to be raised ?

I'll screw it down to the surface, it might sound even better ! Thanks for the comment.

So ... the Lollar is screwed down to the surface and sounds a tab better. But man that pickup is bright. I will try to exchange it with the Tyson Tone in my LP Special that sounds darker/fuller. I have to say that the distance between bridge and pickup on the Special is about double of that on the Jr. That could be why the Jr sounds brighter.

OK ...

The Lollar sounds good in the Jr, but it's not night and day with ths Chinese (that got sold BTW). It is very very bright, but it's missing some fatness. It's not big fat country bacon, more of a fancy back bacon.

I have a set of Tyson TOne '57 Wraptail in my LP Special that has tone forever, but a darker one. Both guitars are mahogany. So I told myself, why not switch them from one to another ?

Check ... very positve move.

The Junior now growls and it is full of everything a good P90 can give. GREAT !

The Lollar is happy in the bridge position on the Special, but ... on middle position, ti sounds nasal like position 2 on a Strat. What's going on ?

I tried inverting polarity on the bridge pup ... no sound. Tried the same on neck pup ... no sound.

What's next ? What am I missing ?

Resolved.

I rotated the magnets 180° on the Lollar in the Special and now middle position is heaven.

I also raised the pole pieces quite a bit on the Tyson Tone. It is now what I expected when I bought that Jr.

To get that chimey Paperback Writer sound you need A5 mags and 42awg coil wire which Gibby uses.
Generally the Asian Gotoh P90s use 44awg which is thinner coil wire which has s higher resistance due to more coils.
Kent Armstrong pickups makes a Korean P90 with 42awg wire and A5 mag that can be found for half the cost of the Gibby P90

The KA P90 comes in a chrome dog ear which is absolutely perfect for Casino

Depends. I thought most of the thread was about various P90 models. My post was not casino-specific. It was P90 specific

OK. But you did start your post by mentionning Paperback Writer (played on a Casino) and end it by mentionning that guitar again. This thread is about a LP Jr.

The P90 presently in my Jr is the bridge Tyson Tone Wraptail '57 pickup described as flollows:

Neck P90 has roughcast ALNICO 4 magnets, bridge has roughcast ALNICO 2 magnets. Magnets are charged individually to very specific levels matching vintage P90 magnets that have been tested for killer sound, balance and dynamics.
Neck 7.3K, Bridge 8.2K

Vintage correct 42 gauge plain enamel wire, hand selected rough cast ALNICO magnets that are individually charged to same levels found in great sounding vintage Gibson P 90 pickups, braided 2-conductor hookup wire. Select alloy steel used for pole screws and keeper bars.

Those are interesting specs. I have a LP Jr with resistance 8.15ko using A5. Gbby uses A5 and 42awg enamel in their p90

The Kent Armstrong p90 pair I modded in my Casino are 8.10k0 and 8.2ko with A5 and 42awg enamel
The KAs are chrome. I never found any aftermarket P90 chrome dog ears other than KA

This one too, much more beat up than the Jr, but I love building things:
