Hello there.

I've seen the 650R and 700T pickups in this guitar described as Alnico pickups (including in Epiphone material). I have also seen them described as ceramic in various places.

I think that mine sound too nice to be ceramic but does anyone have definitive information which magnetic material I have here? Or was it once one and once the other?

Thank you kindly.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm pretty sure those are ceramic pickups.

There's nothing wrong with ceramic pickups if they are decent ones. Ceramic pickups have a reputation for being bad because they're inexpensive. The ones that are in your Special II are good examples of decent ceramic pickups. The ears are the best judge of quality, regardless of what strangers on an internet forum or pickup salesmen may say.

If they sound "too nice to be ceramic" to you, I would encourage you to continue enjoying your guitar as is.

Well, if they're ceramic why does Epiphone say that they're Alnico?

The Epi website isn't always right. I often feel like they assign product descriptions to an intern who knows how to copy and paste and thinks that Alnico is a town in Mexico where pickups are made. Fender's site is just as bad, if not worse.

Do you have a photo of the pickups?

Mine is made in indonesia as well. The plastic I peeled off the pickups said "ceramic". I'm going with that.

Here is a screenshot of a Sweetwater video around 1:13.
