Is anyone here using an SD JB and/or 59? I'm considering a pickup change in my Goth Explorer while I have it torn down for a refinish. I thought I read somewhere that these pickups aren't the best for mahogany bodies guitars so I want to get some opinions from those that have tried them. Thanks

It's my understanding that the JB is always a good choice for everything :0)

Tried & true by the test of time ;)

I do have that set on my les paul. Nothing wrong with them.
Mahogany bodies are not alike, therefore the statement is untrue by default.

I would never refinish a gothic...

The it's a good thing it was my Goth and not yours. The finish on it was pretty rough.

I have a Goth Explorer, it is actually my favorite Epiphone that I own. I put Dirty Fingers + pickups in it that I pulled from a Gibson Flying V. They were too bright in the V but in the Goth they are warm and all Metal!

I loved the GM Dirty Digits (aka Dirty Fingers) and GM P94 on my Goth LP!

I don't think it's a good video to sample their sound, but they are good ones.

Or cosmo black \ ruthenium. That would be a good choice for that guitar.
With open grain satin black finish.
