It's an Epi. No way I'd pay what Gibson wants ($1800) for essentially the same guitar. Pretty tough to mess up a simple slab body and P90s. Pretty tough to improve upon one too.
Haven't had much time to spend with it so far but it sounds great. The lady I bought it from had it well set up...
I believe Peter nailed it pretty well.
Some of us have the funds and the space to own nearly anything we like whereas others have limits on both so we kind of cycle through buying and selling stuff we own for stuff we would like to own.
For that last decade or so I've owned around 12-13...
Not much new to report. The delay with the lease approval for the new place goes on causing me to alter my plans as far as when I'll leave for Wisconsin and my extended visit there. It's been very frustrating.
The leasing agent tells me she has a few more waiting for approval as well. One...
Both true and both due to Leo Fender's quest to improve on designs from his past. He was never one to rest on his laurels. Aside from the MFD pickups and PTB tonal controls the other major improvement was his Saddle Lock Bridge. You can see it in that photo of the Z-3 ASAT.
The underside has...
Thanks Mimmo. Be hard to tell it from a new one right out of the box. The seller kept it in pristine condition.
Don't know if you caught the other addition or not but last weekend I scored the Baja Tele I wanted and it was also in perfect shape. Both were local buys which is odd since Ft...
I feel your pain as well. I went through a pedal divorce earlier selling some I'd had that were getting little use any longer and were selling for somewhat inflated prices
But there's always something new to try and more often than not enough supply to buy back those I sold if I really wanted...
That's the way I saw it as well. She had a very fair price on it and based on that I knew I'd never be underwater on it. That and it's like new condition made it hard to ignore.
I just hadn't planned the cash outlay for two guitars this month. But it's one I wanted and at a great price so...
Guess which side of my brain won. Yeah, the side with zero willpower.
This lady had one of the most amazing collections of elite Gibson Les Pauls and Heritage models I've ever seen. You can see some in the background of her photo. There were 15-18 in all.
One more thought I have to offer is that for me it's more about value than absolute price. What I can afford to buy something for these days has it's limits but within those limits value is the deciding factor.
If I can buy something I like for far less than it's typical replacement cost I...
You can't imagine the battle going on in my brain today. My rule of late has been if something new comes in something old must leave. The old helping to finance the new.
The problem is I don't have anything I really want to part with. I'll either have to select something or bite the bullet...
I just had to resurrect this post in order to share something. The first addition I mentioned was a Baja Telecaster and damned if around a week later one didn't show up locally in mint condition with a great price.
I bought it. You all know that because I posted a photo of it.
The second one...
Thanks Mike. I've done a couple more like it over the past decade or so but sold them. This one I decided to keep because it is so unique. The Micro-Coil pickups are incredible. The final gift to us Tele guys from Bill Lawrence before he passed away.
I think you'll really enjoy putting one...
