One of my favorites of the more recent generation is Alex Hutchings. The man has talent to spare, and REALLY understands melody -- instead of being constantly flashy like so many guitarists these days, he reserves it for just the right moments:
I can vouch for the Squier '51. It's a fun, versatile, and surprisingly well-made axe for the money. I love the stock pickups as well, I really didn't expect the hot ceramic single coil and humbucker to sound all that good, but they have some magic in 'em...especially with the coil-split wiring...
You can't go wrong with a Fender Blues Jr. for the genres you describe, they're plentiful on the used market and dirt cheap. Even better, try and find an FSR (Fender Special Run) version with a Cannabis Rex speaker like this one -- it's one of the best speaker options to pair with a Blues Jr...
Great tone and playing by all of those fellas. Phil X and Gregor Hilden always sound great....but I have a feeling those axes are adding some serious mojo.

Enjoy that beauty in good health!

I got my first Epiphone (a Sheraton II) in 2012 after reaching the semifinals of the Guitar Center King of the...
I just checked my Sheraton and Casino...both have kerfing inside of them. I wonder how it affects the overall acoustic tone of your Joe Pass by not having any? Must not affect the stability of the top and back much without it, seeing as yours is 25 years old and still kickin'!
Absolutely adore my Sheraton. I won it in the 2012 Guitar Center King of the Blues competition and I'll never part with it. Has some kind of non-quantifiable mojo to it that can't be denied.
I've got GFS Pro Series Alnico 2's in my Epiphone Sheraton...might sound crazy, but they are honestly my favorite pickups of all time (and I've owned Duncans, Dimarzios, etc.) There's just something magical about the set I received from GFS.
My Wildkat and Casino both have the stock P90's. I...
