Sure, Epiphone and Gibson are great and all but are they really the only way to go if one wants a LP style guitar? From the 70s to the 90s, Japan really knew what they were doing especially with brands like Greco and Orville.

What are you thoughts?

Orville was a Gibson brand. They are pretty much the same as the Epiphone Les Pauls from Fuji-gen. Maybe a bit above the Elitists?

There's also Dillion. They make some nice LP style guitars too. I never had one, so I can't speak as an owner, but I've played a few of them. They were set-necks too.

I've heard that Dillions were decent guitars. I've never played one though.

This one....late 70's early 80's ish LOTUS Les Paul Copy best damn guitar I ever owned. (that would be me circa 1986 or so) sorry grainy cell pic of an old washed out photograph. But that damn Lotus was better than any Gibson I have played to date.

Heritage, made in the old Gibson Kalamazoo factory, although they're more expensive than an Epi.
the old 80's Aria Pro II
Agile 3000 or 3100 series.

I got this Austin goldtop for almost free. it plays & sounds great but will get a full vintage harness mod soon.

Two of the best I ever had were an Ibanez 2391 (a bolt-on) and an Ibanez 2386 (set neck). Haven't seen any for years.

one of the best clones I've played - well two actually are reproductions of the 1969 Professional model by Alan Entwistle's Revelation Guitars in both 6 String & Bass. Both are virtually spot to the look of the originals. They have modern pickup instead of the low impedence versions.

Revelation RLR

2 Piece Over-sized Bound Mahogany Body
Mahogany Set Neck with Bone Nut
Bound Rosewood Fretboard with Pearloid Crowns
22 Medium Frets
24 ¾” Scale Length
12” Fingerboard Radius
2 angled Entwhistle Neotron Stacked Humbucking Pickups
Chrome Grover Machineheads
Chrome Tune-omatic Bridge & Tailpiece
Phase Reversal & 3 Position Tone Switch
2 Volume, Smooth Control, Density Control & 3 Way Pickup Selector
Vintage Mahogany

Revelation RLB

2 Piece Over-sized Bound Mahogany Body
Mahogany Set Neck with Bone Nut
Bound Rosewood Fretboard with Pearloid Crowns
22 Medium Frets
30 1/2” Scale Length
12” Fingerboard Radius
2 Entwhistle Neotron Stacked Humbucking Pickups
Chrome Grover Machineheads
Chrome 3 Point Bridge & Tailpiece
Phase Reversal & 3 Position Tone Switch
2 Volume, Smooth Control, Density Control & 3 Way Pickup Selector
Vintage Mahogany

I tend to find myself using these in the studio more & more. The various controls allow so much diversity of sound. Live they make a statement too.

Thanks - they also make the guitar fitted with bigbsy on either goldtop or amber sunburst but I went the the Vintage Mahogany as : a) I can't get on with bigsby's and b) it was £100 cheaper. They really are sweet to play.

It's basically a virtually a spot on replica of the 1968 Les Paul Profeesional model. the body is about 1/2inch bigger than a standard LP. it basically copies the original in all aspects of the original and would of been a more fitting tribute to the man had Gibson made this instead of the reording model they put out.

Revelation RLR Recording Model

1968 Gibson Les Paul Profeesional

The only major difference is in the pickups. the Revelaion has specially designed pickups by Alan Enwistle & the Gibson uses low impedence units deisned by les himself

At home.
+1 on the Revelation's, was looking at one of these yesterday:

Although the photo doesn't do it justice, it is extremely well made and sounds pretty good.

Although Revelation got it slightly wrong/mixed up with the naming of the 'Professional' model, as it was originally called the 'Les Paul Personal' and the pic I have of a 1972 original 'Recording' model is different, full scratch plate behind the control knobs. Also missing a control knob next to the selector switch but....still pretty close.
