How many guitars/basses have you owned in your life ?

I have had too many to count pass through my hands. Easily over a hundred, just in the last couple of years.

I had a big purge to raise some cash last year. I sold 10 somewhat spendy guitars along with some not so spendy guitars. I was down to 10 guitars, and actually had some space in my guitar room.

But, I bought some vintage guitars, and bought them cheap. One of the guitars was from 1983 and had been listed on reverb for 2 years.

The seller had it priced way too high, and we talked about the back story of the guitar. He wanted almost 700 bucks for it and OHSC. After I told him the story, he agreed to sell it to me for $425 shipping included.

I have 22 guitars at present, but I’ve slowed down quite a bit as far as purchases. I have bought 3 guitars since January, and two of them I bought in March, just a week apart.

Only 7. I think had I started off buying a bass guitar, 1 is all I would've ever bought. But the 6 string electrics and I chased all the different body shapes & pickup configurations. Same holds with amps. Bass guitar & amps, I seem satisfied with the Jackson 28.6 JS1XM short scale & Ampeg amp.

How many?


Seriously though I can't recall how many because there have been both basses and acoustic and electric guitars I've owned ever since age 14.

In the 60s and 70s I'd buy swap or trade stuff all the time with little attention paid to anythings monetary value vs what another item was worth. There usually wasn't enough difference to be all that concerned about it and it was the best way to try different stuff out. I probably never owned anything more than a few years before trading or selling it.

All I know is that I have more stuff in one place now than I've ever had before even after selling a couple over the past year and lending one to my son-in-law to gig with. I have a bass head up for sale and am thinking about whether or not to sell a couple more pieces. I do get attached to my gear so it's always harder to sell than to buy and I keep things far longer these days. The guitar I just sold I bought in 2011.

Didn't really want to sell it but next month I have a new PRS SE DGT Gold Top coming in and I needed to clear space in my guitar rack, LOL.
