Two guitars have left the collection

The G4M Hartwood Fifty-6
it was a nice toy, sadly a bit neck heavy and rarely got played

and the

Squier 40th Anniv. Tele-Custom
was one of my heaviest guitars with nearly 4 kg
I like my other Tele-shaped guitars more
and needed to make space and fill up the war-chest

Two more out, one more in
Gibson 50's tribute SG
Tanglewood parlour acoustic

Okay so over the weekend I decided to pass on my Harley Benton MM-84a to my son. This left me with a vacancy in my bass rack so I decided to check out some p basses, I used to have a 1982 JV Squier that I stupidly let go while my mind was in a fog after my wife passing away. While surfing this site I came across the Vintage V-4BLK with mirror guard (Phil Lynott & Steve Harris are my bass idols), I found one on evilbay. she arrived this morning.

Out of the box she virtually perfect.
Just a slight truss rod tweak and the action lowering to how I like it
Paintwork & hardware fit and finish are perfect
Intonation was spot on
The pickup sounds fantastic through my Ashdown ABM EVO III 500
Both controls are super responsive.

She's getting
Pure Tone 4 point jack socket
3 string retainer
Rotosound 77's Flatwound strings

Following on from getting my V-4BLK "the rocker" I decided to get the V-4MVW and see if I could turn into a passable Steve Harris homage. Again I found a fantastic deal on ebay £200 brand new and she arrived today.

Like the black one she's virtually perfect out of the box.

Minor niggles
The frets could do with a re-polish (a couple of rough spots)
The bass weighs 8Lb 6.5ozs but is slightly neck heavy
Factory fitted strings are rubbish to say the least
She will be restrung with flatwound Rotosound 77's (not sure which set yet, I ve got a standard set and a Steve Harris set) I've completely fallen for flatwounds

The only mods I'm thinking off (again because I already them in my parts draw)
Pure Tone 4 point jack socket
3 string tree to stop any A string buzz (though she doesn't have any at the moment)
Mirror vinyl over the pickguard
Either fit a no load tone pot or wire volume directly to output ala Steve's own bass
I may fit a Gotoh 201b or Fender Hi-mass (may have to shim the neck to keep my prefered string height)

I dont follow West Ham football club (manchester City thru and thru) so she'll possibly get either of these

Or possibly this one (can't beat a decent hamburger

Impossible for me to answer, but I'll estimate. I was born in 1958. Picked up my first guitar around 1966-2000 I owned about 3 guitars and maybe 2 basses. Then I went nuts. After 2000 until now, I've owned close to 200. Things were different 20 years ago, prices were low (especially on non Gibson Fender stuff) AND shipping costs were low. Craigslist, EBay and then Reverb were great, sellers were reasonable. I didn't plan it, but I turned my guitar love into a good part time business. a IMHO Shipping costs killed it off the most. These days if I see a deal I will grab it, and usually sell it or something else off, but it's rare now. Plus I moved and my new area is not good for selling like where I came from previously.

This might be a gloomy take, but I generally don’t like to think about instruments I used to own. Losing them was rarely a happy event, and I tend to get attached easily.

The most heartbreaking was perhaps my Rickenbacker 360. I bought it brand new in the early 2000s. I loved that guitar so much. About 10 years ago I suffered some catastrophic financial difficulties and was forced to sell it. It still haunts me to this day.
