Currently looking for a second one for normal tuning, but they are kinda hard to come by, people seem to hold on to them.

There are presently two on Reverb.

I've add a fishman aura vt enhanced pickup taken out of a damaged martin d28
Being a joiner I did it over a few nights at home ,very pleased with the result

Not mine, but we recently bought this at the school where I work. Decided to take it home for easter to do some adjustments an proper setup. Had to straighten the neck and lower the action. There are a couple of frets that are a tiny bit high, so if it was mine, I would have dressed them, but the guitar is well within playable, and I like it!

I really like those P-90 Special I and I plan to modify it.
I have a question. How much setup did you have to do? I got mine and adjusted some things to my liking, but something seemed off. Did your tailpiece get shipped with the posts at different heights? The post for the high E , B and G side is a lot higher than the other. My open A chord, D chords and Bottom 3 Strings on the 2nd frets are sharp. Did you have any of these at first?

Something prevents you from adjusting the tailpiece height ?
The open A and D chord problem you describe sound like either a nut adjusted too high or a death grip syndrome. Or ... intonation.

My First Epiphone.

A 1995 Samick made Epiphone Les Paul Gold Top.

I bought this guitar at a music auction a few months back and am trying to decide a way forward with it.

The woodwork seems good apart from a few small screws that are not biting on anything, the electrics though are another matter. It looks like the pickups have been in and out a few times and I suspect the last owner probably took a better set of pickups out of it before putting it into auction, and put the original set back ion, if indeed they are original, there are no markings on the pickups whatsoever to say what they are.

The jack plug is noisy and the toggle switch has been messed with as there is insulating tape around one of the wires, so all in all I am minded to strip the electrics out and start again.

It also has a set of speed knobs on it which I don't think are original. The body and neck binding and the plastic around the pickups has yellowed, I quite like that natural ageing look so am not to worried about that. I might replace the worn toggle switch surround though.

This will be my first restoration so any thoughts are appreciated, my thoughts are to put fifties style pot/caps in it, put some amber bell knobs back on it and search out a decent set of fifties style pickups for it as I am really not happy with the lack of decent tone from the pickups in it.

Yes indeed, my intention is to junk all the electrics. The pots especially look like they have had a tough 25 years.

I won't try to convince you that all of the electronics is almost certainly still adequate if only cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. Personally I would try that before spending money. But it's your choice ...

I will on the other hand try to convince you to keep the nice yellowed toggle switch chip that matches the rest of the plastic. AND ... I would get rid of that awful sterile white pickguard. Take it off the guitar for a week or so and you might (I hope) never want a pickguard on a LP ever again.

I think the guy who thought that a straight edges cheap plastic part would look good on a beautiful all curve guitar body as the Les Paul was a close cousin to the guy that did this.

Regarding the electrics, i'll bear that option in mind especially as its a money saver, I am not knocked out by the pickups though, and its a mess of solder on those volume pots, but keeping it original is also an option which is why I wanted to swap those speed knobs out. I am also getting a lot of volume swell from the tone knobs, being my first les paul style guitar I dont know whether this is normal, or a possible wiring fault.

I'll definitely sleep on the pick guard option, the pick guard though is not as glaring white as it looks, its aged as well. I think the camera flash is making it look brighter than it is.
Must admit though it does look nice without it. (Have included some pics below) Also a pic of one of the screw holes for the pic guard which it looks like the factory had a couple of stabs at getting it lined up.

Oh yeah, so much better without the guard. Two holes leads me to think that the pickguard is not original. You can easily hide those holes by flling them with wood putty and then go over with a gold Sharpie paint pen. It won't mask them 100%, but will make them way less obvious.

For the pots, get some cleaner-lubricant (Deoxit or similar) and spray them while rotating them a dozen times. If that doesn't bring them back, then you can think about replacing them. Do the same with the pickup switch ... but flip instead of rotate

PS. I sent you a private message on adjusting your pickup height before thinking about replacing them.

I prefer Les Pauls without pickguards too, but its each to their own.

The only one with a pick guard is the firebird
