Which leads me to another Q: anyone tried the EBTech Hum Eliminator? Do they work?
I can't say I have any experience with that device, but I'm guessing it's essentially a noise gate of some form.

I deal with hum by means of conductive adhesive copper shield tape in the cavities all linked together and tied to ground.

Thanks Raiyn. The copper tape idea is one I’ve read about for a while and have now seen multiple YT vids on it. I’m considering doing that now that I’ve found a reliable, reasonably priced tech here.

This is the unit I’m referencing: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Ebtech/2-Channel-Hum-Eliminator.gc

It seems to be different than a standard gate; it may do the job but the description makes it out to be something to use when you have an unbalanced A/B switch between two separate amp rigs.

Just be cognizant of the fact that bad shielding can be worse than no shielding. It all has to have continuity with itself, the other cavities, and your ground output or it's just going to be an antenna. Shield paint might seem like a reasonable alternative, but ensuring measurable continuity is *cough* challenging. I've had tons of success with copper tape. I've either ran a wire connection from cavities or soldered a branch wire to the ground braid in something like a vintage style wired Lester. It depends on what I've been given how I approach it.

As for that pedal, are you planning on putting that in the effects loop?

Of the 4 "barn finds" (two Specials, two Juniors) the hybrid Special II (2009 body, 2017 neck) really plays very nice but I will have to say the 2011 Cherry Burst LP Jr. has remarkable sustain and tone, even through a simple amp and no effects.

Lukas Nelson does a Les Paul Junior proud with this classic:

Very nice indeed. Great song and great tone from the junior.

My new FAVORITE guitar! It's a 24 year old Korean "Birdseye Classic" picked up on a whim for $300. I love this thing...plays great, sounds incredible!

About 90% of all Epiphone for the past 12 or so years has that Custom Shop Limited Edition stamp, and there's no such thing as an Epiphone Custom Shop. All marketing, but it's cute.

Little update on the Casino I posted a few pages back. After I suggested that the pickups on my Casino were possibly out of spec – too hot to be "Classic Dogear Alnico" – the fine folks at Epiphone were kind enough to send me a new set of lovely Epiphone lower-wind P-90s free of charge. Had them installed – they're around 9kΩ – and the tech just went and changed the whole harness. Today I got a black guard and put it on. Last things I am waiting for are imperial knob pointers, and shims to set the height of the P-90s correctly (if you see cardboard peeping from under the pickups, those are home-made shims ;D).

The sound was good with the original pickups, but now it's more good :) And I think it looks purdy in its new 330 dress…

I picked up the Les Paul Custom Joe Bonamassa Black Beauty, it feels/plays very smooth and the Probucker pickups sound great!

PS: I actually do have a question: is the nut just plastic or is it a GraphTech like the new ‘20 Epi LPs?

Hey Eric, I'm right with you - similar background and just picked up a 'like new' 2017 Sunburst ES-335 Pro. I was also wondering the same thing, so I contacted Epiphone & they emailed me right back to inform me that it is indeed plastic. I've done my own setups for years - and done a lot of upgrading as well - but seem to have a 'green thumb' when it comes to nuts. I bought a Graphtech Tusq XL & worked with it all day on Saturday, but just couldn't get it quite right (once again), so I just put the stock plastic one back in. I always use Big Bends Nut Sauce, and have had no problem with this nut at all. I really like how it fits and the height of the strings at the first fret, where I do play quite a bit. The intonation is fine there and the action is nice & low. The only other thing I did was loosened each pot (one at a time), 'fished' them back the the f-hole and thoroughly sprayed them out with DeOxit. It plays and sounds great for me (now that my 'cork sniffing' days are behind me as well), so I think I'm set to enjoy it for years without considering any mods. Enjoy yours!
