Paruwi, I only own one Epi but have had a few. All were bought at my local dealer. Never considered Fake Epi's. Now I see this zillion page thread and will mostly ask for a synopsis before I do a time lapse scan of all the posts.

Hit me up with the bullet points on Real vs Fake Epi's. what I am looking for? Oh and I will also add some personal observations I also have seen with my own eyes even at Factory Epi dealers. The most obvious being poorly cut inlay pockets so that filler can be seen around the actual inlays, and worse as was the case of my own 2010 LP Std. The lifting tailpieces where the mounting holes for the studs seem to be egg shaped and not tight. As tension is pulled on the bridge, it lifts up and on an angle toward the head stock. In my case, I had the guitar to the Factory approved Luthier in my area and wound up re- fixing his fix because I actually thought his repair was likely to shortly fail and leave me in the same scenario. ( I glued in dowels, redrilled the holes straight and slightly smaller and re-installed the studs and bridge) Good to go.

After seeing this post, I could not help but get a question in my head about angular fret markers and lefty guitars. Obviously rectangle or trapezoid or dots are all symmetrical and uni directional. BUT these parallelogram ones ( fake vs real) go opposite directions.

Let's say Gib/Epi make Lefty ES 175's, ES 345's, Casinos, etc that have parallelogram inlays. Am I correct to assume they would remain pointing the same direction as their right handed versions?

Been around guitars almost 50 years and never considered this question before today,

Brother Paruwi,
I know this next question may become a moot point soon enough. BUT, I tried to quote your entire post above with the link included, but of course got the error message telling me I did not meet the criteria that qualifies me to post links.
With having been a member here a good while, but just not posting much, I would presume I just need to be patient, ( I actually deleted the link so I could post message 767 above,) Maybe a mod can see I am not a bot or scammer or whatever it takes for me to have full posting capabilities, Or else, it is no big deal to me, I will wait to jump through the hoops like everyone else.

I wonder if this will work and be able to see. I see it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The direction of the parallelograms points the opposite of the Stock Gib Epi pic in post number 26. Also I see the Epi E points differently on the pick guard.

Yep, Paruwi, Obviously it is a fake, especially in the FAKE EPI thread. Having seen both Side by Side, triggered me wondering about the inlays. From this impetus, it got me to thinking of how I know numerous left handed players. They all mostly play Strats, Tele's, LP's, and none of those necks have fret markers that point in a particular direction. Obviously this detail is ONE of many flaws in that fake unit pictured.

Hey guys, Been reading threads on this site for awhile and appreciate all your knowledge. I came across this guitar in a trade. Didn't give up much at all as I traded an acoustic that I was able to acquire for under $300. Plays amazing, beautiful to look at but when I checked out various models of these guitar, the bottom right tone knob placement is almost always little further away from the opening. I have found a couple just like this on reverb, but not many. joe p.jpg Joe p2.jpg Joep3.jpg joe p4.jpg

Korean Epiphone were known to have their knobs planted randomly.
Fat bottom girls make the world go round. You've got yourself a great trade here, completely legit.

Hello people, new member here. :)

I've just received an Epiphone Nighthawk - Custom Reissue from a buyer on Ebay. It's had the pups upgraded, all seems to look OK but, I have one I bought brand new when they came out and compared to that one, the one I just bought on ebay weighs 1Kg less. It's number indicates that it was made 1 month earlier than my original one. I find this weight discrepancy a bit odd, could it be a fake? Is it unusual to have such a weight difference between legit guitars made in the same factory within a month of each other?

Thanks

I have never seen a fake Nighthawk up to now. Wood comes from different trees, different regions. You have both side by side to weight them ?

Yes, I have them both side by side, the original one weighs 3.7Kg and the ebay one weighs 2.8Kg, seems quite a difference.

As it happens, I also have the Gibson version which weighs exactly the same as my original Epi, 3.7Kg.
