Hey @Paruwi ,

Wanna take a crack at this Ace? Sunflake has worked himself into a froth over it.

Has just been modified by its previous owner. There is no such thing as a fake Sheraton.

Hello all! I was wondering if you knowledgeable individuals could help determine if my Epiphone Special II E1 is a fake or not? I bought it back in 2012/2013 from Qatar, and I'm trying to sell it now and this potential music producer buyer guy came over to check it out and claimed it was fake since 'all les pauls are made in USA not China'.

He put the serial number into one of those serial number checking websites and it couldn't fetch it. I read one of the serial number guides and it makes sense according to the guide but could it be a fake since it wasn't fetching the serial number on the website?

The serial number is 1103131634

There was never any fake LP Special II, it's perfectly legit and this potential music producer buyer guy doesn't know caca. It's the other way around, no Epiphone Les Paul is/was made in the USA.

Those serial number checking websites don't work half the time for Epiphone serials. Use this instead: Epiphone Wiki serial number decoding

So if I understand this correctly we now have to look out for Chipiphones? Unbelievable...
Nope. We've had to look for Epiphone fakes from 15 years ago. They're actually pretty easy to spot. They don't make them anymore, they've gone to Gibson.

It's just that you now woke up.

Chibsons on the other hand are now so well made, that they are almost impossible to detect if you don't look under the hood. THAT is unbelievable.

I have a buddy who found 2 good Chibson bodies and filled them full of good stuff. They look and sound awesome. He loves them.

I agree with BGood. Your Epiphone looks perfectly normal - and legit - to me. Nice guitar! By the way, the Epiphone factory is located in Qingdao, China, so, yes, they make Epiphone Les Pauls in China.
Only Gibson Les Pauls are all made in the USA.
