I kept wondering what an amber switch tip would look like on my 56. I went through my parts box, my tool box, and my shelves looking for the one I knew I had. Then remembered it was in the 59 case. I put it on the 56, didn't like it, went back to cream. Then looked at my rack... my gold top that I replaced all the guts on has a black switch tip that doesn't look good. Swapped to Amber, beautiful. I went to put that black tip into my 59 case and it hit me, since I removed the guard and poker chip from my 59, a black switch might be better. Tried it, liked it, cream switch in the case now.

Sometimes it's the little details.
This is why I prefer chrome. It works with everything I own.

Added a vintage green (mint) scratch plate go my new IBG Firebird. Found fabricator on ebay who’s doing a matching truss rod cover. And Schaller strap locks.

Planning for a possible pickup upgrade to Monty’s FB pups (MontysGuitars UK). Want to spend a little time with these ProBucker FB720s before deciding.

And I played today, too!

I routed out the tuner holes on my Epiphone Les Paul ‘59 and installed Gibson Deluxe tuners.

Gibsons Deluxe tuners on the left, original Epiphone tuners on the right.View attachment 16302

I bought this guitar initially as a broken stripped husk; I have always preferred the 10mm headstock holes. In this case they were already there.EpiFull66.jpgPRS6.jpg I had the choice of either my PRS or Grovers, since I only had one set of Grovers and four of the PRS, I chose the Paul R's.

@Roger666 Have you got sound samples with 1 meg pots, by any chance?

I currently have a set of SD's Seth Lover pickups in an explorer-shaped guitar with 500K pots and a .47 cap Orange Sprague cap. I've always found its tone charming in the high-end register but overall lacking in the low end department (although going from 0.22 to 0.47 for the cap already made a big improvement).

I've been considering replacing the SD humbuckers with Epiphone pickups (either Alnico Classic Pros or Probuckers) which, in my memory, sounded a bit darker, but so far I've never got the time for it.

Would you say the Seth Lovers make a big difference compared to Epiphone's pickups?
Or keeping the SD pickups and going from 500 K to 1 meg would make a bigger difference?
PS I know, first-world problem (!)
I never heard the old pickups. the new ones got here before the guitars did so I replaced them and did my wiring thing right away. If it was ME, I'd try the .047 cap and the 1 meg pots. But that's me. I find I get more contol over the tones when I go out of phase and mess wih the pickup's volumes. The tone can sometimes be bright or ice-picky but you can always use the tone knob. It's nice to have that "boost off the edge of the cliff" though. Some of those Epiphone pickups are great. Some, not so great.

Tried a few things on my Casino Coupe.
Wanted to change the Gotoh bridge for a Tonepros roller bridge that I had found second-hand (part number TP6-N, I think).
The inserts are not compatible, however it is still possible to reuse the original Epiphone thin posts to stick the Tonepros bridge on them. It gives a much more solid assembly, there's no buzz from the roller saddles and sustain is even better. What a surprise !
I still want to try nylon saddles some day, just to hear if there's a noticeable tone difference or if it is too light to be noticed.

I've never been a huge fan of the white pickguard (there's a pretty big contrast between its "optimal whiteness" and the guitar's cream binding, see pic below).

That's why I tried the closest pickguard I could find - that of an ES-339, thinking I could perhaps adapt / adjust it on the Coupe.

It looked imho better colorwise (see pic below) but it was also quite wobbly, therefore I had to go back to the original.

To conclude, there is, to my knowledge, no ready-made aftermarket pickguard for the Coupe. It would have to be custom-built.

WD Music and a few others will make you a custom pickguard at a reasonable price. You just send them a tracing of the old pickguard.

Well... today I put Lucy The Love Machine in my lap and pondered that little inspection sticker on the back of the headstock that's been on it for 19 years. Should I remove it or not? The wife says to leave it alone. Now the happy wife, happy life concept pops into the picture. Oh well... I'll get used to it.

I lowered my pickups a bunch. Doesn't sound like a big deal but it dramatically improved the tone, especially the bottom end. It's a lot tighter and it's got some snap to it. Started with the neck pickup and adjusted the bridge to match it. I wonder if they ship these guitars with the pickups so high so people will be impressed with the output. I noticed every time I pick up a guitar to try out at a music store the volume and tone is maxed out. If anyone is getting too much mud out of your pro buckets try lowering them. My neck pickup is flush with the mounting ring which is about 3/16ths lower then it was from the factory.

I've noticed the same thing about factory setups. Even Gibson's factory setup guy will tell you they set them "a nickel's height" below the strings. That's way too high for me. Lower is most always better. But it's "hard drivin' rock", which is what the kids are usually looking for. Me, I figure I can always add that back in with the amp or pedal gain. I can't add clean back in - I have to start with that.

I immediately pull all stickers off guitars. But I also pull all the emblems off cars so long as they're not the type that leaves holes. So there's that.

Yeah... good idea. I'm amazed at how many people put stickers on their cars that say Fender or Gibson. I always tell them that, as an ex-criminal, those vehicles would always get broken into first. 🤣👍🏻

Facts. If you advertise high end stuff on your vehicle you should expect folks to come and do some night shopping.

Dude you have to pull that sticker. You don't know what you're missing. Less weight, improved sustain, and tighter bottom. Make sure you run it by the wife. You could probably pull it off with out getting caught. Step up and be somebody!
