Setting up my new (to me) casino.
Check all the controls,
sort the lower tone knob,,
strings off,
clean oil neck, clean everywhere else.
Fit strap locks -( Mandatory after my precision neck dived into a concrete patio)
restring,
Neck was convex!
Raise string height to "not stupid".
Fix intonation ........ I've run out of adjustment on the G string. It really is sharp. Is it OK to just turn the saddle round?

I might play it!

How's the nut slot height? Do you know how to check? If the slots are high, it can shorten string length, leading to the need to push the saddles way back. But like others said, reversing them is fine. In your case, I'd reverse the E, B, & G... even if the nut needs work and it helps.

Jacks: None of you guys have heard of using a nut on the internal side with a washer so that you can fine tune the external jack height?

That's the reason most panel mount components come with two nuts.

Yes, •some• do, (or rather ,did) and / or you can stack lock washers to achieve the same thing. I prefer the stack.

Honestly, one of my biggest pet peeves working on guitars is missing lockwashers.

I put my 13 string hummingbird in it’s case with humipaks as I’m running the central heat and the humidity is getting lower.

The height at 1st fret is fine. It's odd that the intonation would be off around f5 - 7. Perhaps I'm too sensitive.

Just flip the saddles then. I do that on half the ABR-1 type bridges I work on. Most of the time, I end up flipping at least three. Often it's flip the three up, and the three down, the opposite way. Some manufacturers ship them all the same way, others with a different mix. There are no rules.

To inexact and too much hassle for me. I like the precision and ease of two-nut adjustment!
Too much of a hassle? What?

You still need a lockwasher. I've got more of those than I do spare 3/8" pot nuts

Edit: I've been known to use that method myself, on occasion. As evidenced by this shot.

I don't remember the circumstances, but I was ready with the washers.

This one showed up a day early. It's a Special, I've looked it over and don't see anything to be mad at. Bit of a chip on the headstock on the back but that's okay. Made in June of this year.

It has the same composite looking fretboard that my LP Special has. The finish is pretty clean and not super thick. Neck dives when sitting but that's okay, I have a strap for that.

Tuners seem surprisingly good, they're the one kind I don't like. I'm going to go through it tomorrow and decide if anything needs replacing besides the strings. This one is for my God-daughter, I'll be teaching her to play starting next month. I'll make sure all is good before she gets it.

Edit: I've lowered the action, stretched the strings, tuned it thrice, played it for an hour. Despite the lack of rosewood it's very good! It's really fun to play, it feels like a toy. I kinda want one for myself. The pickups are a little wild, maybe hot. They keep getting feedback, which doesn't happen with any of my other HB guitars. They still have the stickers on them, I'll peel them off tomorrow and inspect the control cavity. Ceramic 700TTM bridge and an Ceramic 650RTM neck is advertised.

Oddly I love the switch. Its a stubby little guy, feels sturdy.

Practiced. Not noodles. I've been doing a lot of it. It's really starting to pay off. I stopped changing tunings, I started taking lessons, and I've been practicing. Today's weapon of choice is my Prophecy V. Which is just an insane guitar. I wouldn't change 1 thing.

Today I worked a lot around guitars but for an epiphone I finally finished the pickup replacement. I gave up the usual probucker2+3 for a couple of sd 59 that I bought second hand few month ago.I use to have a pair of 59+jb but it was too much for a semi hollow les paul and I like more the 59 N+B. and I needed the jb in another guitar ;)

I also changed pots and capacaitors, and finally I discovered that the bridge pickup was faulty so I had to try to fix it and I was lucky. when I was there I flipped the magnet to have an out of phase midlle position like greeny..... works like a charm.

The last thing I did was hammer in the bridge and tailpiece bushings to have them flush with the body (I recently replaced them) and I just saw this :( on one of the knobs. I guess the shock from the rubber hammer created the cracks. They were not that bad - they grew larger after I took the knob off and then reinstalled it. Just ordered another set :(.

This weekend I put a roller bridge and aluminum stop on my modern lp and a schaller wraparound on my jr.

The jr sounds great, with better string separation (to my ear) and this nice shimmery sound acoustically. Better still, I don’t think it lost any of its charm.

The modern benefits from tuning stability, smoother bends (bigger? I think so,) and massive sustain gains over stock. Low strings used to feel a little mushy, that’s gone.

Holidays sorted, happy solstice to me.
