Strings, one at a time or all at once?

Acoustic light strings (.012" gauge, the most common gauge used) have about 160 lbs. of string tension (as an average, it will vary some), not 250 lbs. Electric guitar strings (.010" gauge, the most commonly used gauge) are less than that; somewhere around 125 lbs. if I recall the numbers...

    Is This Really An Epiphone?

I owned a 1964 FT-30. It was called the "Caballero" on the label inside. It too, had a very narrow neck, and the really long headstock. The Epiphone label was different, as was the top of the headstock, mine looked a lot like the elongated "open book" Gibson headstock. Otherwise, pretty close match.

Help : Epiphone Les Paul 2000 Specs

Talked to my friend who worked at Steve's Music. He worked there for a fairly long time, and left in 1996. He doesn't remember Steve's having special runs having been bought during his time there. He did say that Steve's did buy NAMM guitars over the years. Maybe this Les Paul is one of those...

Help : Epiphone Les Paul 2000 Specs

I will be seeing him tomorrow, and I will ask. This is the first I have heard of Steve's having two stores. They were a fixture on St. Antoine for years and years. There was also the famous Simon's camera/photo store on the next block over. I guess they have had to move as well, unless they...

Help : Epiphone Les Paul 2000 Specs

They have moved since, I think 2018 or 2018, as the city is redeveloping the area. I will talk to a friend of mine (a luthier) who worked there at one time in the guitar repair shop. I don't know what time frame, though, so he may have been there a longer time ago than the 20 years.

Help : Epiphone Les Paul 2000 Specs

There are no Long & McQuade stores in Montreal.

Loosen strings or not when adjusting action on TOM bridge?

if you have it tuned up to pitch, and you are lowering the TOM bridge, that will not be an issue. If it is tuned up to pitch, and you are raising the TOM bridge, you are putting more stress on the neck, and potentially risking breaking a string.

Epiphone SG G-400 Pro Selector Switch

This relates to the volume being off on one pot actually shorting out the volume pot for the other pickup in the middle switch position. This used to be the standard wiring, even for the Gibsons until some point in the 1960s (I think). The solution is to add some resistance value inline with...

    Well Here's A New Twist

Was the salesman at the second store able to tell you why it was buzzing? Was it fret issues, or did the truss rod need to be adjusted, or maybe were the strings too light a gauge (light strings have a tendency to buzz easier)?

    ES 335 Pro hardware

I think you can get a better deal at any local guitar store, or on-line. I bought my set on eBay, and the equivalent set up here in Canada was $CAN50-70 more, locally, overall. The vendor stores I find to be overpriced in most cases. I think in the US, because you don't have to bring stuff...

    New SG ‘61 intonation problem

There are two types of bridges, the ABR type and the Nashville type. One has a longer range for the saddles. You may want to try that, if you intend to keep the guitar. Or, as has been suggested, take it back to GC. What gauge are you looking to use? If it is unusually heavy, the guitar may...

    ES 335 Pro hardware

I changed my Les Paul Standard over to TonePros for both bridge and Tailpiece. Couldn't be happier. The quality is obvious, not just from appearance, but from the feel of the units. My Epiphone originals looked cheap, and felt flimsy in comparison. The bridge is wider, so less of a need to flip...

    Plastic Casino pickup covers

There are numerous videos on how to do this on Youtube. In general, most recommend cutting the solder joints with a knife, and then removing the solder with after the cover is off.

    The New FAKE Epi thread

I bought my set neck LP for $CAN225. Its a 2001 Korean made one, and has some dings in it, but on the other hand, it sounded good with the original Epiphone hardware, and is fairly light. I live in Calgary, and the guitar was in Edmonton, found it on Kijiji.

    Pro-1 Acoustic Strings?

i am unfamiliar with the Pto-1. However, for an acoustic guitar, .008 or .009 gauge strings are unusually thin. The standard acoustic light set is .012"-.056", and extra lights are .011"-.052", or very rarely, ultra lights at .010"-.048". Strings lighter than that usually don't impart enough...

Tonepros Bridge for 2010 Korean Epiphone Les Paul Standard

Just thought I would report back on the TonePros Bridge and Stop Tailpiece, that finally arrived in the correct chrome finish. The difference between the original Epiphone Bridge and Stop Talipiece was evident from the time I opened the packaging. The TonePros Stop Tailpiece is noticeably...

Eliminate stop tailpiece from Epiphone LP

i'll be honest: I really don't care if it is made, I only tried to point the OP to an answer to his question. I don't care if he does it or not, and I am neither encouraging him to do it, nor discouraging him from doing it. I am merely answering a question that was posted. I don't pretend to...

Eliminate stop tailpiece from Epiphone LP

Yes, the guy who left 9 days before my first post. Who may come back, or may not. If he doesn't, I have a pretty good idea as to why he won't be coming back. As for the CNC machine programming, why don't we leave that to the person who actually programs the machines? You know, the guy who came...

Eliminate stop tailpiece from Epiphone LP

Link to Ferro guitars was provided in my first post on this. I was only trying to help the original poster. It may have been worth his while, if he were dead set on doing this, to have a conversation with the person machining the Ferro parts. Maybe it will cost more than a Les Paul Jr. or...

Eliminate stop tailpiece from Epiphone LP

The machined from solid aluminum billet Fbrro Bridges are less expensive than other third party bridges, like the Faber, so no $1000 bridge. On the site itself, it shows a video from Big D guitars, and he is saying that the bridges are between $80-$100 (builders get a discount). It may cost more...
