NAMM 2019: Epiphone ‘Old Glory’ Jared James Nichols Les Paul Custom

The site has changed to woods to Mahogany in case anyone hasn't checked :)

    Conditioning Basswood Composite Fingerboard

From Epiphone: "The fingerboard is stained, but it isn’t coated. Regular lemon oil products will work fine with it." When I restrung it it didn't look dry enough to oil, so we'll have to wait and see how well it takes it I guess.

    Conditioning Basswood Composite Fingerboard

So I'm about to restring my James Bay Century, which has Epiphone's Basswood Composite as opposed to the usual rosewood or ebony, and as a habit I condition the fingerboards of all of my guitars when I restring. Has anyone had experience oiling the composite up? My initial instinct would be to...

    Epiphone Point of Purchase Posters

I'm interested see how many people have these, but today I was finally throwing out the shipping box from my James Bay Century and found that the seller had put some extra goodies in the box that I'd missed. This included an Epiphone Acoustic Accessory kit, and a Point of Purchase poster...

    Replacing strings to record...

Depends on the song. Different songs dictate different sounds, so there isn't really a right or wrong here.

    The New FAKE Epi thread

Yeah, so far the electronics look good. That took me by surprise when I opened it up. Wondering if they just plopped not just Epi pickups but the whole harness in there.

    The New FAKE Epi thread

From top to bottom, the "Grovers" look fake, the text is slightly too narrow compared to two other sets of Grovers I have, the truss rod cover is VERY thin and hasn't got the bevel I've seen on other Epi Truss rod covers, and the fonts look slightly off. The logo looks VERY wrong, it sits quite...

    The New FAKE Epi thread

I was about to do some work on an Epi that my friend owns. I'm quite sure it is fake, but on the off chance I'm wrong I would love a second opinion.

    James Bay?

In fairness though, I think most of the anger towards Epiphone came from the fact that they didn't openly state on the product page that they stopped using rosewood. For months after they were still advertising it as it having one.

    James Bay?

Hahaha, I was sceptical at first like many, but yes, I was fussing over something aesthetically. Obviously we've grown accustomed to the look of rosewood on guitars, but this basswood composite stuff feels the same, sounds the same, and is an effective alternative. No complaints here lol

    James Bay?

Finally got round to recording some good audio samples from this guitar. It sounds pretty killer, and to my surprise does a fantastic job handling gain. Also as far as the composite fingerboard goes, to me it feels identical to rosewood, or whatever variety of it used to be put on Epiphone's...

    James Bay?

Bringing this thread back, just yesterday I managed to get my hands on one. I had to ship it in from Japan because of the mess the Gibson/Epi distribution has made for the guitar market in Australia, but it came quickly and with no issues. I can safely say this is 10 times better than the...

    No Epis In Oz

Any idea how long that changeover would potentially take?

    No Epis In Oz

Gallins currently is the distributor. Just in case you didn't know they bought out Allans the last time it was going under, and as far as I have worked out (through about 4-5 phone calls to Gibson AMI over the last 6 months) they essentially used A/BH online as the distributor. Whether or not...

    No Epis In Oz

I emailed Epiphone again, and apart from getting a wishy washy response again it sounds as though they are looking at getting a new distributor: "We are seeking a solution to bring our products back to the Australian market". CITES wouldn't be THAT big an issue, seeing as most other countries...

    No Epis In Oz

I've talked to the Gibson/Epiphone AMI here a quite a few times over the last few months. In October they said about 10 weeks for their next shipment, but that got delayed and is due to be here this month (Jan 2018). Kinda screwed them over for Christmas, but seeing as its basically the end of...

    Intonation!!!!!

As simple as it might seem, it is worth asking is it over the entire fingerboard? After the bridge I'd check the nut, and make sure the slot is the correct depth.

    "Refurbished" Epiphone ???

My used stamp is really faint compared to others, like barely even noticeable (promise it is there)

    "Refurbished" Epiphone ???

My refurb Jay Jay French signature has the yellow serial number sticker (original was still underneath though). Also had the USED stamp. Had a few small finish flaws from I assume the factory. I'd recommend sending detailed photos to Gibson/Epiphone. I was able to get mine verified with...

    James Bay?

Great photo for reference. I was trying to look at different photos to try and distinguish the differences in the composite and the actual rosewood. How have people been able to tell that James Bay got a composite one? I watched the videos he did with it and I can't tell from the footage.
