The confirmed cases of Covid-19 in my postcode area are still creeping up :frown: 998 cases now. The figures in my neck o the woods are still going the wrong way to lift restrictions yet.

34K cases in Maryland, 7K in my county.

The projections don't really show this, but I think the number of cases will surge 2 weeks after Memorial Day (May 25), the unofficial start of summer. People at beaches and backyard parties, and various levels of social closeness will increase transmission.

Somehow, SWMBO managed to pre-register us for testing tomorrow. This is just the nasal swab test, 3-5 days for a result. Only the rich folks and high government types get the fancy "instant" tests or antibody checks. Frankly, I'm surprised she managed to get us slots at all. I've been seeing how the sites have been running out of tests routinely.

Today's confirmed cases of covid-19 in my postcode area has broke the 1000 total :frown:, 1005 cases now.
923 in Pinellas County, 63 dead.
2019 population 974,996.
Bear in mind, the numbers are based on testing that has only recently become more available.

I'd be interested in seeing antibody test numbers, because there's been a number of folks who I've spoken to who got "really sick" back in February.

I was sick in February for about three days. I think it was the flu. My wife is convinced that it was COVID-19, but no-one else in the house was sick. So either they have strong immune systems or I am a poor transmitter of a highly transmissible virus. Or, it was the flu.

Anyway, I signed up for the NIH surveillance study, where they draw some blood and look for antibodies. They sent me a link to fill out some general information (age, height, weight, etc.), but nothing else yet. I live 25 minutes away from NIH, so I can go in for a full blood draw. Otherwise, they send you a kit and I guess you do a finger stick and send your blood back to them.

Strangely stable today. I'm not sure if there's a delay in the results or what.

SWMBO and I got our brains probed yesterday (seriously they really go hunting for gold with those swabs) and there were surprisingly few cars in line.

It could just be that we got there towards the end of the testing day that there were so few cars. I don't want to believe that the locations of the testing sites had anything to do with the observed lack of turn out.

My wife has been working in the COVID unit for the past few months at the hospital she has worked at for the past 40+ years. A bit scary, but maybe safer than working at Walmart or Menard's, etc. She just says it's her job and you just do what needs to be done. Much like being in the military during peace time and then a war breaks out.

Well, so much for optimism.
1008 cases (+46) and 67 passed (+2)
We took a drive out to one of the barrier islands (Treasure Island specifically) and noted how few masks we saw on folks on the sidewalk. Social distancing? What's that? People walking right up on other groups? Yeah, that's cool.

Apparently, it's the Wild West in tourist town as some restaurants were observed as not in any sort of "six foot / 25% capacity" mode at all.

We parked at a local ice cream shop (well secured, masked, plexiglass up as best they could) and while we were sitting in the car, eating our ice cream (car off, windows down, obvious what we were doing) in a functionally empty parking lot some asshat in a Mercedes Benz Douchemobile backs into the space right next to us. Not a space over, not pulled in forwards to allow the driver to exit on the opposite side. Nope, so close SWMBO had to close the window lest the person blow vape (or worse) into the car.

I say this every day now with varying levels of profanity mixed in: People are ____ MORONS!

Still terrible numbers in my neck o the woods, 1117 confirmed cases & 35341 deaths with positive test results for the UK.

I read yesterday about France decision to open schools up, the first week saw 70 new cases of Covid-19 in children. Scary.

We get (have) to drive through places that are either hard hit, run by morons, or both!

Here I was thinking the suits Dustin Hoffman wore in Outbreak looked uncomfortable....

Australia has passed 100 deaths, a paltry sum compared to other countries but this is a contest we don’t want to win.

Gladly the new cases an the deaths had flatened over here
it seems our govt had done a few things better than others
some 'newcomers' climbing up the list, mostly South America, Mexico, India and Russia
by sunday I guess the US has reached 100.000 deaths :wow:

The 'Death per 1M population' number is freaking high in some countries
