when you think it can't get worse......

Germany's case fatality rate (#deaths/#cases) is under 1% - and the # cases is high, so it's probably not reporting errors. We (USA) are under 2%, but just getting started. Whatever you're doing in Germany, keep doing it.
USA 1.8%
Italy 10.8%
China 4.1%
Spain 8.3%
Germany 0.8%

Kentucky’s governor got all proactive early on, Tennessee’s did not. As a result, Kentucky has as of this morning 394 cases, we have 1,373. Friday, Kentucky’s governor urged people on the border to stay out of Tennessee, and by implication for us to stay the hell out of Kentucky. Only a handful of cities and counties have suggested safer at home policies, mainly the large metro areas, and really apart from promises of financial assistance for people having to file for unemployment, all the state has done so far is close dining in restaurants and bars, and closing gyms, theatres, and large gatherings.

It's hard to compare results from one country to another, even from one state/province to the next, as testing is not standardized. So % of infected doesn't mean much.

True. But if you look at deaths/million population (on the right), they're doing pretty wall.

lots of tests.....
not fighting party-politics
listening to experts from the RKI (Robert Koch Institute)
practising solidarity from top to bottom of the community

Govt had saved lots of € in the last years - now they can spend it where it's needed

The economy can recover, the dead cannot

Just read a story about Mercedes F1 team modifying a CPAP machine to act as a sort of ventilator for those in need of the pressure but not the full tube down the neck thing. Williams, McLaren, Renault, and Red Bull are also working on variations, and Dyson already has some nearly ready to go. And that, Charlie Brown, is what a quick response is all about.

SWMBO works from home now, since I'm "essential" I'm still required to go in.
Apparently, I'm not as "essential" as I had previously been led to believe. Last week they raised our pay 30%, this week they cut my hours 63%. Thankfully my money isn't what we live on, because that's...

I suppose a guy should be glad for the reduced exposure risk.

Today additional state restrictions, called “Phase 3” came in.

This means there are only a handful of excuses for leaving home! People over 70 aren’t supposed to leave their property at all except for buying essential supplies.

From today there is a $1600 fine if you are caught with more than one person over your family unit.

Going to be interesting to see how that goes?

We’re moving Roz today so it will be interesting to see if we’re fined.

Maryland Gov issued a Stay At Home order after 8 PM tonight. Trips for groceries, medicine, and essentials are OK. Otherwise it's punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.

I think that some people who serve the jail time will be too dead to pay the fine.

The Governor has finally issued a statewide safer at home order, what we’ve been doing in the cities now for a week or more.

Our state this morning shut down access to firearms and ammunition.

Just another excuse to bash legal gun owners!

Can’t imagine that any gun shops are open anyway!

I stand corrected. The governor did not in fact order safer at home, merely urged people to. As of this morning, there’s ~1,850 positives across the state, 16th highest in the US.
