I'll go the other way with my so small you could lose it Vox MV50 Boutique. I like it's Nutube technology. It does sound like a ... tube. I also got a Vox Stomplab to spice it. Great duo they make.

The Blue Valvetronix Amp

The first Valvetronix to be released were the AD60/120VT, (followed by the AD120VTH - head) in July 2001. Specifically designed as gigging amps, these hybrid amps were a revolution in tonal quality from previous modelling amps because of the unique 'valve reactor' circuitry that Vox had developed, which utilised valves working with the digital modelling. Combined with quality effects from Korg, it was a superb amp that delivered tone & touch response that was closer to an all-valve amp than had arguably been developed previously by any other modelling amp manufacturer.

I am not very knowledgeable about Marshall amplifiers. I have a couple questions about this Marshall 5213.

1. Is the footswitch for this amp a single-button pedal? That is what I have read. I bought a single-button footswitch for mine.

2. Also, I have read that it is possible to use the footswitch to toggle back and forth between 2 different overdrive/distortion sounds. However, I have not been able to figure out how to do this (despite having downloaded the old Marshall spec sheet/instructions, which are not at all clear to me). With my 1-button pedal, I have figured out how to choose clean or dirty, not 2 different levels of dirt. Is it possible to use the footswitch to toggle back and forth between 2 different overdrive/distortion sounds? If so, how?

Thank you in advance if you can help with either or both of the above questions! I know the second one may be difficult to explain to someone who doesn't know much about Marshalls. As to that second question, remember that Ich bein ein dumbkopf!

No, this isn't possible (to my knowledge)

The 5213 actually has a seperate third channel, back then it was advertised to use this for an acoustic-electric guitar or even a microphone....

I've used the 3rd channel via an AB-box for another clean sound

And one o' dese:

which is essentially a Bandit with an added gain stage. It sounds amazing, from jazz to hardcore punk and everything in between, no problemo. The gain on the middle channel sounds better than any pedal I run through it, not kidding. Just a great amp, I was skeptical at first because I definitely prefer tube amps, but I'm really glad I got it.

I also have an old Crate vintage club 20 amp, one of the first amps I ever got, which are total crunch monsters. Omg, it sounds so good. One of the pots is scratchy no matter how much deoxit i spray in there, but I'll just keep using it until it dies. It just has this woody crunchy tone that I never found anywhere else. Really great amps, too bad they got a bad rep because of reliability, I think it was, because they sound awesome.

And finally, a Superchamp XD that I put a Weber ceramic Sig 10 in. Sounds great for blackface tones, and can even get a little tweedy. I plan to get a DRRI to replace it, but for now it's great for practice and as a light grab and go.

I have an Epi Valve Jr. 5 watts head and the 12" Emience extension cable. Never thought 5 watts could be so loud. I would love to have your Epi Valve Custom. I also have a VoxDA5 in my living room for practice and noodling while watching TV.

I have accumulated a few, and still want one more…

#1 is my ’64 Tremolux, which I got for less than what you’d spend for a DRRI. It’s my all-round, all-purposes amp. Sounds wonderful at apartment level, sounds great at rehearsal, and can cover all my gigging needs effortlessly. It’s probably my favorite piece of gear.

This is my swing amp. A ’46 Epiphone Zephyr. Lots of reliability issues (it let me down at the first gig I took it to) and it does weird things (especially adept at picking up radio frequencies ;D). But what do you expect from a 74 years old piece of gear based on 1930s tube technology? If and when I get good at keeping the quirks under control, it will go on the bandstand with my big band. I also have a little tweed champ clone that I love. It sounds so good!

- an original tweed Jazzkat I got for next to nothing. Great little jazz amp.
- a very handy Yamaha THR10C (which has become my son’s bass amp)
- an equally handy Mustang Iv2
- an enigmatic Acoustic Image Clarus II with RE 12” cab which I might keep or I might flip depending on whether I find a use for it. Flip to fund a big tweed amp looks likeliest right now…
