Ordered a little rack but not exactly feeling it. Nice that it is compact but it doesn't give much space between guitar, I can picture some headstock dingers. Also the foam on the bottom is very grippy, so setting them in place has to be very intentionally done. I will give it a few days and decide if it's a keeper. I really only need it for a year anyhow and won't be putting the nicer ones on it.

Yikes! You know me, I usually call 'em like I see them.
Send that 💩 back. Between the narrow spacing and the pipe insulation... Naw man whatever you paid was too much.

I'm leaning that way. I've messed with it a bit, still don't feel happy with it. I might just have to build something myself, at least then I'd have the spacing I'm comfortable with. I have a lot of wood so it won't cost me anything but a few hours time.

Sounds good. I've got a String Swing case rack I picked up on Reverb a couple years back.

For my situation, it's the best choice for storage. The Handi-Clamps have been modded with these rubber pads I found to provide some cushion for the wood and a bit of grip. They help keep the cats from tipping things.

I suppose a few dowel pegs and some felt would convert it to a guitar stand... but not with six furballs running amok.

Getting better with soldering. Thanks @Raiyn for suggesting the Kester 63/37 wire. That did make a significant difference.

Wired up the Bourns pots and fancy "blues" pio caps. Picked up a reamer at harbor freight for $4 and expanded the volume holes to 3/8". About to have dinner and drop the assembly in. Tomorrow I'll have some wire in the mail to run the switch, and an "almost 59" gold top will be born.

Also trying out some strings from Ohio called SIT. I'll bore you guys about them in the string thread once I've had a few days with them.

No problem. That stuff is basically the soldering version of the Konami code.

Did you get the "no-clean" or the "44" version?

Since you seem to be going for some sort of faux '59 vibe I'll save the lecture on the Commie Caps. The ghost of Joe McCarthy would like to have a word however.

Bourns pots are a solid choice though. As a bonus you don't have to buy knobs.

I'm guessing you went push back wire? A little clear nail polish can help keep the sheath from fraying (depends on how waxy it is).
Come to think of it, I should try beeswax next time.

Good lad. No sense in paying stupid prices for a simple tool. I trust you worked from both sides to have a more even hole?

Removed strings on my ES335 Traditional to file out some minor fret sprouting. Used a good ole number 2 pencil eraser to clean the frets as well. Restrung with new strings and now ready to spend quality time playing. Really nice guitar!

Great day today!

Today I installed a vintage-style wiring harness with '50s wiring, and a pair of Wolfetone Dr. Vintage pickups in one of my Les Paul Moderns.

The end result pleases me immensely! :)

My other Les Paul Modern has the same wiring harness, but with a pair of Dimarzio PAF Master pickups:

These Les Paul Moderns are incredibly wonderful modding platforms. (And, they awesome guitars right out of the box, too!)

Been in Canada the last few days, won't be home until noon on Monday. My good top is waiting to be completed and somehow the agony of wanting to play it is bothering me.

Today I learned, don't bother messing with a guitar unless you can finish it the same day.

Doesn't help that I woke up and downloaded Vox tonelab right before I left for Canada, very itchy to play with that.

I was weary of the slight vibration I could sometimes hear coming out of my Casino Coupe when played unplugged.
I wrapped the string ball ends and all the screw threads and moving parts I could find in the bridge and tailpiece areas with Teflon tape.

Now part of the tailpiece kinda looks like a modernized version of an Egyptian mummy 😅 , however I'm happy to report that the annoying noise is gone and that, as a consequence, there is less slack in the bridge/tailpiece areas and the guitar's sustain is even better which is a nice surprise. :D20230924_142717_copy_985x739.jpg

I like the Hercules GS525B stands. However, I noticed that they have really gone up in price since I ordered mine 3-4 years ago. I paid 70 bucks apiece for my three back then - Now it looks like they are up to $115 apiece...
