Welcome to the forum! That looks good to my eye. The pickguard never perfectly follows the cutaway. The truss rod cover could have been replaced, or it’s possibly the original given how clean the guitar is. I’m sure someone else will chime in shortly! :thumb:
The above is correct, as far as I know. When both pickups were originally released, the Probuckers were to be a sort of Burstbucker equivalent for Epiphone, where as the Alnico Classic Pro’s were to be more in line with the ‘57 Classics.
Agree with the above, it’ll take a ton of time. Sanding down the old finish on the headstock face, followed by a respray of the repair area will give the best results. I wouldn’t brush the poly on, even with wet sanding and a buff it still won’t look great. I do paint prep (among other things)...
I don’t have personal experience, but I wouldn’t think the scale length would be a huge issue. It is a wider change than say, a Fender scale length. It would depend on the size of your hands though.
I’d leave it, but use your choice of a buffing compound and polish it back. It might clear up some. I wouldn’t remove it for the reasons above.
… or maybe I would :hmm: I’ve done crazier in the automotive/motorcycle world :io:
I use a mix of barrel and top hat knobs, both with ‘thumb cutter’ indicators. They come in handy with how much I play with the volume controls, both at home and live.
If my memory serves me, you’re correct. I thought about getting a Pelham a year or so after I bought my black one (late 2011… maybe ‘12). Decided against it because I didn’t like seeing the grain through the finish.
The works of art that rolled out of the House of Stathopoulo are incredible. I’ve only played one pre-war, but it was a fantastic instrument. Great buy, and enjoy it!
I’ve always had a soft spot for the black backs. That, and the early Custom Classic with the split diamond inlay. Top of my list is the ‘55 you already have though
Not to throw a wrench in the works… ok, maybe I want to throw one lol. This is what I just did on my JJN Les Paul. The pickup ring was $7.50 on Reverb, and I’ve had this SD Antiquity mini humbucker laying around for eight or so years and never installed it.
