I’ll admit to being partial to iced tea burst flame tops. Fender “Plus Top” Strat, MiM, 2013. Super guit. Plays so sweet. Neck modern C but almost a little more carved (think ‘60 Les Paul).
That’s a shame about yours. The 335 Pros available are probably simply the last in stock and will sell through and be done with. Are they offering the flame top as a replacement or did you get a refund? Personally, I prefer the new, less-gigantic headstock on the new ones.
From all I can tell, there’s no difference between the two other than the flame veneer. If it floats your boat, by all means, go. I love my plain top 2019 335 Pro in heritage cherry. Other than the new headstock shape, it appears all electronics and pickups are the same. And, interestingly...
Thanks CC! Cool seeing all the stats and glad it got into the right hands and had the proper finishing touches by Mr. Turner. How awesome is it that the original pickups were somehow found?!?
When it was at Gruhn Guitars, I almost asked to play it but because a) it was inside the acrylic...
CC: I stand corrected. Phil’s “Mission Control” solid body pictured above was at Gruhn’s Guitars here in Nashville last time I checked. Pretty amazing to see that thing in person. There’s a Dead cover band called the Stolen Faces whose bassist on occasion has gotten to play Mission Control...
Congrats E56. Nice guitar and thanks for the clarification. I actually called Gibson since I originally asked the Q and was told the same. Still absolutely loving mine. If you’re reading this and ever have tuning, fretting or intonation issues, do yourself a favor and have it professionally...
Great photos. Phil’s bass was loosely templated on a Starfire but was actually an Alembic, I believe amongst the very first Alembic basses. Cipollina’s SG = a work of art.
Dunlop 65 lemon oil. The 335 Pro I just got needs the same treatment but the NYXL 10-46 set are practically new and too good to yank off just yet. When they’re finally toast, my pão ferro board will look like rosewood. Or ebony. ;)
I recently watched the YT video documenting the process of building of a 335 at the Gibson factory and the guy hosting the tour (who had previously held multiple jobs on the Gibson factory floor) said that guitars with poor looking wood (unfortunate knots, weird grain) were the guitars that got...
Thanks Raiyn. The copper tape idea is one I’ve read about for a while and have now seen multiple YT vids on it. I’m considering doing that now that I’ve found a reliable, reasonably priced tech here.
This is the unit I’m referencing...
While I regularly check out things on YT, I didn’t know there was a 60 Cycle Hum channel. I only used the handle because I get said hum on my amps. Wondering if that’s only a not-well-grounded electrical circuit in our home or if it’s the amps.
Which leads me to another Q: anyone tried the...
Some of the others. L>R Gibson LP Studio “worn brown”, a 2005 with a 490/498 set and Klusons. Taylor GS-Mini rosewood 2018 and a Fender Plus-Top Strat (Baja) from 2013. Not pictured: Martin 000-1 1995, an Epi LP Special II (Korea, 1997) and a Indio/MP Tele copy.
