By comparison to other places Australia has it pretty good! Most infections here started from cruise ships and people returning home with the virus. Fortunately we have a very good public health service and living on an island helps control the flow of infections.

If you are in the market for a good low mileage cruise ship then your opportunity is coming~

Our stats ATM and we have a population of about 25 million.

And today, while the governor of Kentucky - an early adopter of stay at home and shutter nonessential business with proven success - was giving his daily update, a group of protesters was shouting outside the Capitol (shouting propels it even further than 6 feet), standing shoulder to shoulder, and just being general arsewipes.

Following in the footsteps of the Michigan idiots.

He took of his shirt and wrestled the virus into submission.

Victoria reordered only one new case of Coronavirus yesterday but of course there is a long way to go.

I registered with my clinic for the flu vaccine the other day to be told I’m No. 800 on the list! We are encouraged to have it earlier this year but quantities coming through are insufficient as yet.

31 dead in Canadian retirement home

31 people died in a Canadian retirement home within a few weeks. Apparently, many nurses no longer came to work for fear of the corona virus. The supply of the residents broke down.

The Canadian authorities are investigating the death circumstances of 31 older people who have died in a retirement home near Montreal over the past few weeks. Apparently almost all nurses left the home because they were afraid of being infected with the corona virus. So far it is unclear whether this happened suddenly or gradually.

Francois Legault, the Prime Minister of Quebec, said that in the end there were only two nurses in the home to take care of the 130 residents. The investigation is still ongoing, but he assumes gross negligence.

According to official reports, at least five residents died of Covid-19 lung disease caused by the coronavirus. A coroner is supposed to clarify the cause of death of the 26 other people.

Not enough food, dirty beds

According to regional media, the home is being advertised as a luxury senior residence for around 150 people. The operator is a real estate company that also owns six other retirement homes as well as residential and office buildings. Legault announced that all of the company's business activities should now be investigated.

Local health authorities apparently reported abuses in the home on March 29. Residents were lying in beds soiled with feces and were insufficiently supplied with food or were already dehydrated. Although the authorities intervened, two residents died a little later. Legault first went public a week ago. A few days ago, the police confiscated administrative documents such as timesheets and announced interviews with witnesses. The fatalities received international attention, according to a report by the AFP news agency.

Yes, it's friggin' insane. Owner previously convicted with drug traffic. Rents go from $3,000 to $10,000 a month in some of these houses. Staff is grossly underpaid. It is a private home like hundreds of other. They do get subsidies, but previous government cut drastically in social healthcare, with the results we see today. All this is far from over.

I have a neightbour, sweet old lady that lives in such a home (her secondary cottage here). She is here now in the country because her daughter in law who's a doctor told her to bail out two weeks ago when she saw the very first cases. Her sons kind of abducted her.

It is a nightmare.

Manslaughter surely?
The determination of their guilt or innocence will unfortunately depend entirely on the amount of their prior campaign contributions, coupled with their ability to deflect blame onto others. We’re raising that to an art form over here.

Looks like there will be a class action.
