Decided to try a set of 9s on my 355. I normally buy D’Addario NYXL 10-46 by the 25 pack box. But when I was unpacking after we moved I found a 3 pack of 9-42 NYXLs that I must have bought at some point. Not sure how much I like them yet. We’ll see. Figured it’s worth a try. View attachment 25540
Be sure to check your intonation after that. Raising your action that high can throw you sharp the higher you go on the fret board.I raised the action on my Casino, because there was a little bit of fret buzz, to about 3mm on the bottom e-string at the 12th fret. Was thinking that would be too high, but I’m not actually noticing anything hugely different (other than the buzz on the 7th fret has gone away).
What string gauge do you use ?
Yeah, it needed a retune after that, but I haven’t spotted any problems higher up the fret board. To be honest I may take it to one my local stores to get a set up and a general health check.Be sure to check your intonation after that. Took my Casino for a set-up, and got fret buzz sorted, neck adjusted slightly and the action is nice and low. Plays fantastic and I wonder why I left it so long to do.
This morning I recut a pickguard I had hanging around to fit my ES 175 Premium.
Initially I wasn't convinced but it's growing on me ...

Then I cleaned up and repolished the original. It came up really well.

Awesome! I couldn't agree more.It wasn't today, and it's a small change, but it made a big difference to me. I didn't feel that the speed knobs on my 355 fit the style of the guitar, so I changed them out to gold reflector knobs, which I feel matches the look and era of the guitar much better. Certainly for my tastes. The last pic also shows my Epiphone Dot, which I had also swapped the amber top hats with silver reflectors, and changed the switch tip from black to cream, to make it feel more like a classic 335. To me, these two guitars are more appealing to the eye this way.
Wait! You cut that by hand? It looks awesome. Gives the Casino a more upscale look. I thought it was a Riviera at first glance.Nearly finished trying to use up my last sheet of acrylic.
Thought I'd make one for the casino and I like it far more than I thought I would.
It's a couple of mm smaller than the original coz I thought that looked too heavy.
Wadjathink?
