Decided to try a set of 9s on my 355. I normally buy D’Addario NYXL 10-46 by the 25 pack box. But when I was unpacking after we moved I found a 3 pack of 9-42 NYXLs that I must have bought at some point. Not sure how much I like them yet. We’ll see. Figured it’s worth a try. View attachment 25540

I haven't tried 9's in a while and my playing style has changed a bit since I have. I should probably pick up a set and give them a roll.

I raised the action on my Casino, because there was a little bit of fret buzz, to about 3mm on the bottom e-string at the 12th fret. Was thinking that would be too high, but I’m not actually noticing anything hugely different (other than the buzz on the 7th fret has gone away).

Be sure to check your intonation after that. Raising your action that high can throw you sharp the higher you go on the fret board.

Faber was having another holiday weekend sale with 20% off all bridges and tailpieces. I know a good number of you fellow Epiphone aficionados don't feel that Faber hardware represent a real value but for those that do, it's a good opportunity to save a few bucks.

I have the Slash Victoria I picked up last month that I've finally wrapped up the pickup and harness work on. I put a set of BB 2's and 3's into the guitar and wired my own complete harness using a set of four Bare Knuckle CTS 550K pots, a Russian .015 uF PIO cap for the neck and a MOD .022 Oil filled cap for the bridge. Initially, I swapped out the A2 magnet in the neck for a Throbak, made in the USA (Illinois to be exact) Unoriented A5 and was really pleased with the results. So, this past week I installed another UOA5 from Throbak in the bridge pickup. It definitely sounds great but the jury is still out as to whether I'm going to keep that magnet in the bridge.

Given it's a holiday weekend and I have yet to tamper with the bridge and tailpiece on the Victoria, I took advantage of the Faber sale and grabbed the requisite ABRM and '59 aluminum tailpiece kits. This time around, with the UOA5 in the bridge I stayed with the stock nickel plated brass saddles, feeling there wasn't any lacking in clarity with the different magnet installed in the BB 3. I did go for titanium saddles in the two '59's I have, one with stock BB pickups and the other with the Throbak SLE-101's. Anyway you look at it, with the there Les Pauls I have quite a variety of tonal possibilities at my fingertips.

So, that's what I've done/am doing with Epiphones.

Everyone have a great holiday weekend. Stay safe and enjoy yourself.

What string gauge do you use ?

I am using 10s at the moment.

Yeah, it needed a retune after that, but I haven’t spotted any problems higher up the fret board. To be honest I may take it to one my local stores to get a set up and a general health check.

I listened to The Strokes album Is This It, which inspired me to lay down a track with my Epiphone Casino that I had intended to record on an acoustic, but there was too much hubbub in the house to record with a microphone.

I ended up replacing the Bigsby B700 on my Riviera. The metal on the vibrio bare was cheap and started to break up in appearance.

So I took matters into my own hands and ruined the whole Bigsby to a pale rose gold with a buffing machine. Oooops!

So I waited to try to find a deal on a new Bigsby and it never came so I ended up buying a new one and it cost me about half of what the guitar is worth.

Anyway, I am happy again and the guitar looks great. The new Bigsby seems to have a better plating and a rubber sleeve for the vibrio bar. Hmmm.

Took my Casino for a set-up, and got fret buzz sorted, neck adjusted slightly and the action is nice and low. Plays fantastic and I wonder why I left it so long to do.

Was just catching up here in the thread and I was going to post the same. If you need 3mm to get rid of fret buzz, you need some fret work.

Sounds like you it in a good place. Congrats.

Not mine, but I dressed a couple of high frets on my friend's Exillante.

This morning I recut a pickguard I had hanging around to fit my ES 175 Premium.
Initially I wasn't convinced but it's growing on me ...

Then I cleaned up and repolished the original. It came up really well.

So the only thing that I’ve been a little disappointed with on my new IGC 355 was the bridge. It buzzes. That’s not exactly unheard of with ABR1s and Nashville bridges. Doesn’t really bother me plugged in. But I like to sit on the couch unplugged with my simi hollows. I had a gold TonePros locking ABR1 from a project that never ended up happening. Put that on and problem solved. IMG_7370.jpeg

It wasn't today, and it's a small change, but it made a big difference to me. I didn't feel that the speed knobs on my 355 fit the style of the guitar, so I changed them out to gold reflector knobs, which I feel matches the look and era of the guitar much better. Certainly for my tastes. The last pic also shows my Epiphone Dot, which I had also swapped the amber top hats with silver reflectors, and changed the switch tip from black to cream, to make it feel more like a classic 335. To me, these two guitars are more appealing to the eye this way.

Awesome! I couldn't agree more.
Great choices and an aesthetic boon to both instruments.
Nicely done.

Nearly finished trying to use up my last sheet of acrylic.
Thought I'd make one for the casino and I like it far more than I thought I would.
It's a couple of mm smaller than the original coz I thought that looked too heavy.
Wadjathink?

Wait! You cut that by hand? It looks awesome. Gives the Casino a more upscale look. I thought it was a Riviera at first glance. :)
